2016 Inter-Provincial Retreat: “On the Road to Emmaus”
“I would like to examine topics in the Gospel of Luke which we can apply to our Franciscan religious life . One of the topics that all Franciscans need is to deal with the call to surrender to God’s will as we face huge institutional changes in these years. I think Luke will give us a good platform to discuss that .”
“We are called to accompany Cleopas on the Road to Emmaus where we can meet the Risen Jesus. Will we recognize him when he shows up? Will we be ready to hear what he has to tell us?
Will our hearts burn within us as we reflect upon the Sacred Scriptures, and when we encounter him in the breaking of the bread. During this week of retreat we will look at some central themes in the Gospel of Luke that lead up to the Death and Resurrection of Jesus. We will examine the three Resurrection Narratives to help us to identify with the Christian journey outlined in their accounts. We will apply these lessons to the challenges of our life as Vowed Religious, especially as we journey along a road that leads to our own Emmaus.” — Jude Winkler, OFMConv
